Breaking the Rules by Cat Lavoie - Published by Marching Ink, August 2012
Written by admin | Friday, 22 June 2012 15:17
When twenty-seven year old Roxy Rule’s best friend and roommate accepts a glamorous new job overseas, she expects their relationship to continue as it’s always been—carefree and easy—until they share a heart-stopping kiss.
While Ollie escapes to jolly ole England to live out his dream and save the planet with green architecture, Roxy is stuck in New York City working for a boss who makes her want to stab herself with a letter opener. She can’t bear to think about her own big-city dream of being a chef anymore. Over the years, her passion for food has only resulted in extra pounds and a staggering credit card balance for fancy kitchen equipment that she barely has time to use. Still, Roxy’s sure that nothing can come between two lifelong best friends—not even mild jealousy over a thriving career or a silly little kiss that meant nothing. In fact, it was such a meaningless and forgettable kiss that it’s not worth mentioning to her fiancé, not that he would even listen—all they do these days is argue about their upcoming wedding.
Roxy is faced with an unexpected family reunion when her younger sister Steffi arrives on her doorstep, six months into a pregnancy she refuses to discuss. When older sister Izzie—in the throes of a premature midlife crisis—joins them, she’s determined to crack the case of Steffi’s impending motherhood. With the Rule sisters living under the same roof again, Roxy’s quiet little apartment in the city is about to be anything but peaceful.
Roxy soon discovers that her seemingly idyllic relationship with Ollie started getting complicated way before he left for London. She must come to terms with her feelings for him, learn to stand up for herself and go after what she really wants.
Breaking the Rules is the story of what happens when you have to redefine the rules of love, friendship and family in order to find yourself.
PRESAGE The Reality of The Virtual BOOK - LAUNCH: JUNE 8, 2012
Written by admin | Monday, 18 June 2012 04:01If prophesies can change history by enlightening us so we can strive for an alternative outcome, will men benefit if we can see our future or will men suffer because the most wonderful dreams for one are often nightmares for others? In this dystopian novel, clairvoyant computer games and simulated historic personae, who reignite the battle between socialism and capitalism at their source of origins all are a few things we can look forward come 2018...
Hong Kong, 8 June 2012 – Presage, by Hong Kong author Betsy Cheung, depicts the world in 2018 when society has changed to cope with the
systematic depletion of wealth from the people to an oligarchy which –as part of their game plan of world dominion- is slowly shifting the burden of welfare on the people. Technology has advanced so much it is possible to simulate the mind of historical personas, and their insights put the world trajectory in an exponential acceleration. The problem is how to keep it on track. Voices of dissent spin into a vortex. Original ideas and hair-raising notions are explored in a clever plot which plunges Sam, a prodigious computer game programmer and Sophie Chantal, a journalist fresh out of school, in a fast-track narrative and soon they find themselves entangled in the games of media barons, secret agents, virtual scientists and apostles.
With the economy of so many countries in near shambles, the stance Cheung makes about the world in 2018 is topical and its launch timely as it explores a new avenue in the impasse between the one percent and the ninety-nine percent. It is notable that Cheung is simultaneously launching a ‘Manifesto’ about the changes in this hypothetical world.
‘This ‘Manifesto of Compassion’ explores how community action can make the invisible hand visible. What Cheung does in the novel is imagining what will happen to the idea/theory in a real world far from ideal, but something is not the same, testifying how prophesies can really change the world, even if it is just a fictional one.
Published by Pebbles Publications, available from Amazon in paperback and kindle version.
About the Author : Born in Hong Kong, Betsy Cheung grew up in Holland and studied in the UK. She combines writing with teaching architectural design at college. She is currently working on a fictionalized memoir, which will be published in 2013. She maintains two websites, www.betsycheung.com and www.operationpebbles.com and lives with her daughter in Hong Kong.

Have you ever been betrayed by your church family? Have you ever put trust into someone so involved in the church that you felt they were heaven sent? Only to be violated in the worse ways possible. Why are some preachers so scared of preaching the truth? Is it because they’re afraid of losing church members or money? Have you ever wondered why church people keep religions shelves? Is it really that ease to put our religious ways on and off a shelf whenever we feel like it? Why is it when someone says or does something not so Christian like to us we react by saying I haven’t been saved all my life?
